Passport du Soleil

Friends of mine planned to ride the Passport du soleil this sunday. Having looked foreward to it for weeks, maybe months, it’s pretty sour for one of them to get sick. To sick to ride these slaughtering 80 km, even when it’s mostly downhill. He was kind enough to ask me to take his place. With a little pressure on my collegues, I’ve managed to take the time off on monday. I’m heading out there on saterday, ride on sunday and off home on monday. Traveling to Champéry (where we start) is about 8 hours by car and will be by itself pretty tiring. So I’m guessing I’ll be very very abnormaly tired on thuesday. Luckily I don’t have to give a presentation to about 90 people that day (no kidding, I do have to do that).

What is the PPdS (look at TBX’ photo’s of 2006)
It’s 80 km’s (320 m of total uphill climb) in a resort with 12 ski-lifts and you can ride there all day long, starting between 8 and 10 in the morning. 7 different resorts to start from:
- In France: Avoriaz, Châtel, Les Gets and Morzine
- In Switzerland: Champéry, Morgins and Torgon

Some more inspiration… yeah I’m stoked to go!

All pictures by TBX and this last pic shows the 2006 group at the finish… death tired but stoked!

Filthy Trails

Old habits die hard: this blogpost was first posted in dutch, here’s the translation. Holland has only a few trailbuilders, and recently new and legal tracks are being build for everyone to ride. A great example is the Filty Crew with their Filthy Trails in Limburg (Maasvallei). It’s beautifully shaped and they are getting a lot of deserved publicity at the moment. It’s looking awesome and I can’t wait go check it out sometime:

Today’s fathersday gift for Reinier

He’s back on the bike, and tore up the trails in Rheden like a caveman. Not showing any rustyness at all. Obviously we combined riding with chatting, from the recent @media event to Rennie’s new coilshock, we covered pretty much everything. One of the nicest and fast decents, we ran into some uphill-folk. To bad… I was having a ‘romaniuk’-moment pushing and peddeling like a maniac. We stopped to make a few foto’s, capturing another legendary ride.

The Malmedy Massacre

Today I got butchered in Malmedy (Belgium). A butchering that bad doesn’t happen that much and it makes it worth mentioning that much more. What happened? I trailed along with Trailjunkie TBX, and some of his friends, and I obviously forgot to buy some EPO for the ride…

Nsmb.com: Marzocchi 2008

A Marzocchi-equipped VPfree – one of Marcello’s rides in Cortina.

The 2008 Marzocchi Fourcross fork.  100mm and 1820 grams (4lbs) claimed weight.

The Marzocchi 55 ATA.  Why is it called the 55?  Because it has 6″ of travel of course

The Marzocchi 66 ATA in white.  Why is it called the 66 you ask?  Because it has 7″ (180mm) of travel of course.

“If I liked the fork, I was even more impressed by the air Roco. It feels like a coil shock. Honestly. I was trying my best to slam the bike as badly as I can (which comes as second nature to me) and the shock just felt bottomless and did not complain once. After some runs, I got fully accustomed to the coil/air combo and really enjoyed flying down Cortina’s trails, which were actually pretty cool. I am sure you will see more bike manufacturers spec’cing the Roco air.” (STOKED… I WANT ONE!)

Frontline magazine video: Cedric Gracia unplugged

Frontline Magazine: “The French philosopher on slopestyle, skinsuits and prostitutes in racing. He’s probably extreme mountain bikings most colourful and popular figure. From slopestyle to 4X to downhill racing – he’s done it all at top level. The man is an athlete as much as he is an entertainer. Lend Cedric Gracia a microphone – as we did after the Vigo World Cup – and he’ll occupy it for quite a while. Thus we ended up with some rather interesting and funny 12 minutes of interviewing.”
